Kānaka Alliance
A movement to educate Hawaiʻiʻs communities on the Transformational Farm Bill (TFB). Established in 2018.
Mission
Our mission is to uplift and empower Native Hawaiian subsistence farmers within the homesteading community by strengthening food sovereignty, advancing ʻāina-based stewardship, and ensuring meaningful access to the opportunities and protections within the Transformational Farm Bill. Through education, advocacy, and cultural grounding, we cultivate resilience, economic self-determination, and a thriving future rooted in ʻike kūpuna and community kuleana.
Who We Are
Background
The Transformational Farm Bill (TFB) is a growing national effort to reshape federal agricultural policy so that it prioritizes small-scale farmers, regenerative practices, climate resilience, food sovereignty, and equity for historically underserved producers. The Farm Bill determines how billions of dollars in federal funding are allocated for agriculture, conservation, nutrition programs, crop insurance, disaster relief, and rural development. Yet many Native Hawaiian homestead farmers have limited access to or awareness of how these policies impact their livelihoods.
For communities rooted in lands established under the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, agricultural policy is not abstract—it directly affects our ability to steward ʻāina, sustain our families, and build generational resilience.
Coming Soon
Rooted in aloha ʻāina and ʻike kūpuna, we stand with Native Hawaiian subsistence farmers to protect homestead lands, strengthen food sovereignty, and transform federal agricultural policy into pathways of equity, resilience, and generational abundance. By demystifying and mobilizing around the Transformational Farm Bill, we ensure our homesteading communities not only survive—but thrive.
